Predicting League of Legends Ranked Games Outcome

    Get PDF
League of Legends (LoL) is the one of most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games in the world. For LoL, the most competitive way to evaluate a player’s skill level, below the professional Esports level, is competitive ranked games. These ranked games utilize a matchmaking system based on the player’s ranks to form a fair team for each game. However, a rank game\u27s outcome cannot necessarily be predicted using just players’ ranks, there are a significant number of different variables impacting a rank game depending on how well each team plays. In this paper, I propose a method to predict rank game outcomes based on several different variables that would be collected 14minutes into the games. Using three different machine learning algorithms: Logistic Regression, Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine, I found that game outcomes can be predicted with 79.46% accuracy with all the collected data and newly added variables. I also use the model to show the importance of each variable in helping players make winning decisions. The results show that the difference in gold between the two teams has the most impact on the final result of the games. The skill difference in the three groups can be further examined with extra variables that were not explored during the study

    Text Summarization Using Semantic Technique

    Get PDF
This work proposes semantic technique as a new approach for text summarization of online news/ journal articles. This text summarization project contains two part: parsing and semantic analysis. At first, for the parsing, we set up criteria to evaluate importance of sentences within text such as position, length. According to this, only sentences with high score of importance will be selected. The number of sentence selected depends on how much compact that users expect summary output would be. System combines those sentences into summary draft. Second part is semantic analysis; the technique we use here is lexical semantic approach. During this part, system will use Word Net lexical database to analyze words within summary draft. This database had words linked through semantic relations such as synonym, antonym, hyponymy, and more. Our project would end up by evaluation process. We evaluate accuracy of summary output, also compare and find differences between human summary work and system result.

Tough Behavior in the Repeated Bargaining Game. A Computer Simulation Study.

    Get PDF
Bargaining behavior occupies an important part in economics literature, or social sciences in general. Although there is an extensive simulation literature on social tradeoff in the Prisoner's Dilemma and the one-shot bargaining game, little has been done for the repeated bargaining game. Part of reason for this neglect is that, despite having a continuum of Nash equilibria, under homogeneous settings, the one shot bargaining game consistently gives a stable equilibrium of fairness (50-50 division), robust to many kind of tough perturbations. However, it's true that social interaction doesn't always yield unconditional egalitarianism. Hence we simulate a population of homogeneous agents playing the repeated bargaining game to test the stability of the 50-50 norm under evolutionary force. It turns out that when it comes to repeated interaction, the fair norm no longer stands strong

Cost Efficiency and Loan Loss Provision Analysis in Vietnamese banks

    Get PDF
This study analyses cost efficiency and loan loss provisioning behaviour of 33 Vietnamese commercial banks over the period of 2011 to 2018. Along with testing three hypotheses of loan loss provision, including income smoothing, capital management and business cycle, the results of cost efficiency score are included in the model to examine their relationship proposed by Berger and DeYoung (1997). This study first estimates banks’ efficiency levels from a translog cost function. Then, we incorporate the estimated efficiency results into the regression of loan loss provisions using Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimators. The empirical results show that the average of Vietnamese banks efficiency score is above 92% and support for the existence of the income smoothing and capital management hypotheses, whereas no evidence is found for business cycle. Furthermore, a significant negative relationship between loan loss provisions and the banks efficiency is indicated

Does The Glass Ceiling Exist? A Longitudinal Study Of Womens Progress On French Corporate Boards

    Get PDF
n this article, we conduct a longitudinal study of womens progress on French corporate boards of directors. We particularly focus on the extent to which women directors have circumvented the glass ceiling. Using a sample of SBF 120 companies over a 10-year period from 2000 to 2009, our results provide evidence of a significant increase in the number of women on French corporate boards. However, the corporate glass ceiling hypothesis is consistently rejected whatever the considered measure of female directors; i.e., the number of board seats held by women, the number of firms with a critical mass of female directors, and the number of directorships held by each women director

An explicit secular equation of Rayleigh waves propagating along an obliquely cut surface in a directional fiber-reinforced composite

    Get PDF
The propagation of Rayleigh waves along an obliquely cut surface in a directional fiber-reinforced composite was studied recently by Ohyoshi [Ohyoshi T. Compos Sci Technol  2000; 60; 2191-6]. The author derived the secular equation of the wave, however, it is still implicit. In this paper, a fully explicit secular equation of the wave is obtained by using the method of first integrals. From it we immediately arrive at the secular equation of the wave for the case when the cut surface is parallel to the fiber direction. This secular equation is much more simple than the ones obtained recently by Cerv [Cerv J. Int Rev Mech Eng (IREME) 2008; 2; 762-72] and Cerv et al. [Cerv J et al. Composite Structures 2010; 92; 568-77]. Based on the obtained secular equations some approximate formulas for the velocity of Rayleigh waves are established and it is shown that they are good approximations. The explicit secular equations and the approximate formulas for the velocity derived in this paper are useful  for analyzing the effect of the material properties and the  orientation of the  fiber direction on the Rayleigh wave velocity, especially they are  powerful tools for solving the inverse problem: determining the  material parameters from the measured values of the velocity

Early detection of slight bruises in apples by cost-efficient near-infrared imaging

    Get PDF
Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has been widely reported for its useful applications in assessing internal fruit qualities. Motivated by apple consumption in the global market, this study aims to evaluate the possibility of applying NIR imaging to detect slight bruises in apple fruits. A simple optical setup was designed, and low-cost system components were used to promote the future development of practical and cost-efficient devices. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, slight bruises were created by a mild impact with a comparably low impact energy of only 0.081 Joules. Experimental results showed that 100% of bruises in Jazz and Gala apples were accurately detected immediately after bruising and within 3 hours of storage. Thus, it is promising to develop customer devices to detect slight bruises for not only apple fruits but also other fruits with soft and thin skin at their early damage stages

General one-loop formulas for HffˉγH\rightarrow f\bar{f}\gamma and its applications

We present general one-loop contributions to the decay processes HffˉγH\rightarrow f\bar{f}\gamma including all possible the exchange of the additional heavy vector gauge bosons, heavy fermions, and charged (also neutral) scalar particles in the loop diagrams. As a result, the analytic results are valid in a wide class of beyond the standard models. Analytic formulas for the form factors are expressed in terms of Passarino-Veltman functions in the standard notations of {\tt LoopTools}. Hence, the decay rates can be computed numerically by using this package. The computations are then applied to the cases of the standard model, U(1)BLU(1)_{B-L} extension of the standard model as well as two Higgs doublet model. Phenomenological results of the decay processes for all the above models are studied. We observe that the effects of new physics are sizable contributions and these can be probed at future colliders.Comment: 32 page
